In their first official game of the season, UVA women’s rugby beat out the Maryland Terps at home on beautiful Madison Bowl field. Try scorers included Jackie Kim, Laura Lyons, Brianna Kim, Kelley Frank, Laura Watkins, Cameron Boland and Danielle Theberge with multiple conversions made by Katie Estep. The Flo’s were able to use their speed on the outside to turn the corner on Maryland’s wings. Though Maryland always brings a strong starting pack, UVA’s forwards were able to keep them at bay with technically sound play. This game also marked the debut of a new crop of ruggers for the UVA team with high potential for the future.
Next weekend, the Flo’s are celebrating their alumni with an alumni match on Madbowl Saturday and a joyful tubing excursion down the James Sunday.
